Literacy:
Our next genre of writing is 'Non-chronological report writing'. We will be using all of our exciting knowledge of the five food groups to create a report all about a balanced diet. We will be be text marking A Food Map of the UK which will help us to understand the features we need to make our final drafts successful. |
This week we began looking at fractions. We discussed the mathematical names for the number at the top, numerator, and the number at the bottom, denominator. We played a quick game of splat to familiarise ourselves with these terms!
We then looked at using a range of concrete, pictorial and abstract ways of building fractions. Some of these methods were better suited to the way our brain works so we had to choose they way we found most helpful. |
Following on from this, we explored equivalent fractions. We had to match the fractions with their equivalent fraction before writing or colouring these in our books. Our doubling and halving skills helped us with this activity.
|
We explored Marty, looking at how we could use the iPads and the coloured cards to direct to different spots.
|
Building on our understanding of direction we looked at how people can use coordinates to direct a person to particular item or place on a map. We completed a range of coordinate games as part of our ICT sessions, battleships was definitely our favourite!
We then found the items in the first and all four quadrants, labelling the coordinates accurately in our books. Some of us challenged ourselves to think of our own coordinates to create an image before passing it to a friend to complete. |

Our genre for the next three weeks is 'Persuasive Writing'. We will be creating an article or leaflet to persuade our audience to reduce their carbon footprint. We will be using our knowledge of pollution and bossy verbs to help us form persuasive arguments. |
This week we have been celebrating all things Wales! We have practised our handwriting, publishing the traditional Welsh rhyme 'Gee Ceffyl Bach'. This was part of a whole school competition in which Criw Cymraeg chose the best published handwriting!
Our favourite activity this week was learning all about Carissa Tanton. Carissa is a Welsh artist, born in North Wales. Carissa loves to draw and is known for her fine line drawings using black pen and paper. We created our own art using some of her most popular patterns as our inspiration.
|
We researched St David, the Patron Saint of Wales and the reason we now celebrate Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant.
We used our digital skills to work independently to create our own fact files. |
