Sports week
As this week was sports week we had the opportunity to try a range of sports including gymnastics, football and dance. We also took part in traditional sports day activities, particularly enjoying the egg and spoon race!

Parachute fun
We talked about how different mini beasts move and then crossed over and under the parachute seeing if our friends could guess which we were.

The Coronation Party
We had lots of fun in our Coronation Party! Some of us wore Red, White and blue or dressed up as royalty before feasting on our buffet.

Healthy and Unhealthy Foods
As a class we have been looking at healthy and unhealthy foods. We sorted the foods into healthy and unhealthy lunchboxes and then chose some healthy snacks we would include in our own lunchbox.

Symmetrical wings
This week we have noticed that butterflies wings are almost symmetrical in colour, pattern and size. In order to replicate this we painted one side of our butterfly and then folded it in half to make the wings symmetrical. We loved seeing how the paint transferred from one side to other!

Repeating patterns
We have been focusing on repeating patterns this week in Maths. Then we collected natural items from the nature area to create our own repeating patterns. We used sticks, stones, leaves, flowers and bark to make our patterns. |
We started by using coloured paints to complete the caterpillars, looking at simple and more tricky repeating patterns. |
Summer Term

We will be learning about healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables. We will be exploring both colours and numbers inside the classroom and in our wonderful outdoor areas. We will be taking our magnifying glasses down to the nature area to search for minibeasts including ladybirds, worms, slugs, bees and woodlice and investigating their habitats. We will be looking at the lifecycle of a frog and a butterfly.
Some of the stories we will be reading include:
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar
- Superworm!
- What the Ladybird heard
- Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell
We have lots of exploring, investigating and learning to be done this term while having lots of FUN!

Easter Chick Hunt
The Easter bunny came to Caerau early! They left us some Easter chicks with eggs inside. We had lots of fun working together to make sure we found enough for everyone.

Pancake Day
We didn't want to miss out on Pancake day in half term so we made them a little early! We had some lovely buddies from Year 4 to help us and they tasted delicious.

We made the most of the beautiful sunshine and went down to the nature area. We found lots of baby owls and worked together to put them in order!

Chinese New Year
This week we have been looking at how Chinese New Year is celebrated.
We learnt that this year is the year of the Rabbit, we practised writing numbers and made Chinese lanterns but our favourite part was trying lots of tasty Chinese food!

Teddy bear's breakfast
We made breakfast for our teddy bears as part of their morning routine. We enjoyed buttering the toast and adding jam but our favourite part was eating it!

This term we will be discussing the importance of brushing our teeth and the brush bus scheme will be introduced as part of our daily routine.

The Mad Scientist
This term our whole school topic is the 'Mad Scientist'. We will be looking at different routines, light and dark, space, stars, nocturnal animals and more! We will be looking at routines such as brushing our teeth, our bedtime, getting dressed and how we make breakfast. We will be looking at the characteristics of 'light and dark' and how we can experiment with this. This will include looking at shadows and experimenting with torches.
Our focused stories will include 'Whatever Next!', 'I dont want to go to bed!' and 'Owl Babies'.
As a Progression Step we will also be learning about and celebrating the Chinese New Year, St David's Day and World Book Day.
We are very excited :)

Santa comes to Caerau
We had a special visitor today! Santa came to give us selection boxes for all our hard work in school.

Christmas trip to Wiggleys Fun Farm
We had lots of fun on our school trip to Wiggleys Fun Farm. We fed the animals, played in the parks and got to meet Santa!
