Sports week
As this week was sports week we had the opportunity to try a range of sports including gymnastics, football and dance. We also took part in traditional sports day activities, particularly enjoying the egg and spoon race!

We had lots of fun exploring the fairytale village and seeing the animals. Of course we had time at the end of the day to have a play in the park.

Bee Bot
We followed instruction cards to direct the Bee Bot to the correct mini beast. We talked about moving forwards and backwards and began to use left and right.

We used spaghetti to paint like Superworm! We loved the finished results and thought they looked like fireworks.

This week we have been looking at Christianity. We listened to the Creation Story and Noah’s Ark. We put the animals on the ark in twos and made rainbows from rice to represent the end of the flood.

Unity tree
This week, as part of our Christianity topic, we looked at Unity Trees, We talked about our school community and how we can be kind friends. We are going to add our hands on to the tree to make our own unity tree.

Fruit Mini beasts
As we have been learning about mini beasts and healthy foods we combined the two to make our own fruit mini beasts. We talked about which part of the mini beast the fruit represented and then got to enjoy eating it!

We have been using our knowledge of pattern, size and colour to match the socks on Norman’s washing line.

Norman’s new shells
We have been reading the book Norman the Slug with a Silly Shell this week where Norman tries lots of different objects to make a shell for himself. We used the iPads to create our own shells for Norman.

Mini beasts
We used our tuff tray to explore the mini beasts habitats and recycled pebbles to make our own mini beasts. We are then going to display them in the nature reserve.

Parachute fun
We talked about how different mini beasts move and then crossed over and under the parachute seeing if our friends could guess which we were.

The Coronation Party
We had lots of fun in our Coronation Party! Some of us wore Red, White and blue or dressed up as royalty before feasting on our buffet.

We have been looking at King Charles’ crown this week and the different shaped jewels that are on it. We used our knowledge of shape to recognise and name the shapes on the paper crown.

Healthy and Unhealthy Foods
As a class we have been looking at healthy and unhealthy foods. We sorted the foods into healthy and unhealthy lunchboxes and then chose some healthy snacks we would include in our own lunchbox.

Symmetrical wings
This week we have noticed that butterflies wings are almost symmetrical in colour, pattern and size. In order to replicate this we painted one side of our butterfly and then folded it in half to make the wings symmetrical. We loved seeing how the paint transferred from one side to other!

Repeating patterns
We have been focusing on repeating patterns this week in Maths. Then we collected natural items from the nature area to create our own repeating patterns. We used sticks, stones, leaves, flowers and bark to make our patterns. |

Our topic for the Summer term is 'Nature Detectives'.
We will be learning about healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables. We will be exploring both colours and numbers inside the classroom and in our wonderful outdoor areas. We will be taking our magnifying glasses down to the nature area to search for minibeasts including ladybirds, worms, slugs, bees and woodlice and investigating their habitats. We will be looking at the lifecycle of a frog and a butterfly.

Easter Chick Hunt
The Easter bunny came to Caerau early! They left us some Easter chicks with eggs inside. We had lots of fun working together to make sure we found enough for everyone.

You're Tea-riffic!
We made some delicious chocolates, decorated labels and then used ribbon to attach teabags to our gifts!

Welsh Cakes
As part of our St David's Day celebrations we learnt about Welsh Cakes and why they are special to Wales! We had to measure out the ingredients, mix them together and then roll the dough before we cut them out. We then got to taste our delicious baking!

Pancake Day
We didn't want to miss out on Pancake day in half term so we made them a little early! We had some lovely buddies from Year 4 to help us and they tasted delicious.

Love Spoons
To celebrate Valentines day we made our own Love Spoons. We looked at traditional Welsh Love spoons first and then followed instructions to make salt dough. We rolled and shaped our Love Spoons before putting them in the oven to bake.

This week's story is all about Plop, the owl who was afraid of the dark!

This week we have been looking at how Chinese New Year is celebrated.
We learnt that this year is the year of the Rabbit, we practised writing numbers and made Chinese lanterns but our favourite part was trying lots of tasty Chinese food!

Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'
In our Art lessons we have been looking at the work of Van Gogh, in particular 'Starry Night'. The children have been recreating this picture using oil pastels and chalks.

This term our whole school topic is the 'Mad Scientist'. We will be looking at different routines, light and dark, space, stars, nocturnal animals and more! We will be looking at routines such as brushing our teeth, our bedtime, getting dressed and how we make breakfast. We will be looking at the characteristics of 'light and dark' and how we can experiment with this. This will include looking at shadows and experimenting with torches.
Our focused stories will include 'Whatever Next!', 'I dont want to go to bed!' and 'Owl Babies'.
As a Progression Step we will also be learning about and celebrating the Chinese New Year, St David's Day and World Book Day.
We are very excited :)

We had lots of fun on our school trip to Wiggleys Fun Farm. We fed the animals, played in the parks and got to meet Santa!
