Welcome to our Nursery classroom Our class room is split up in to many different learning areas. These include our: role play, small world, sand and water, reading corner, construction, creative, fine motor, playdough, painting, writing area, maths area, music area and our investigation station.
Nature Detectives- Summer Term During the Summer Term our topic is 'Nature Detectives'. As part of this topic we will be reading stories such as: - The Hungry Caterpillar -Oliver's Vegetables & Oliver's Fruit Salad - The Bad Tempered Ladybird -What the Ladybird Heard -Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell -Superworm! -Sam's Sandwiches We will learning about different fruits and vegetables and how we can eat healthily. We will be exploring colours both indoors and outdoors and will be using our outdoor area of explore mud, leaves, flowers and seeds. We will be learning about minibeasts that can be found in the local environment including ladybirds, bees, worms, snails and woodlice. As well as this we will be learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly and of a frog.
Happy Easter! We have been really busy in Nursery this week learning about Easter, reading the Easter story, going on Easter egg hunts and making lots of Easter crafts. Have a look at the photos to see what we've been up to!
Making Gruffalo Crumble! We have been exploring our new outdoor area and making 'Gruffalo Crumble'. We have been learning new words such as full, empty, half full, pour, stir, mix and bake. We used mud, water and natural materials to make our Gruffalo Crumble.
Measuring The Gruffalo's Footprints. This week we have been reading the story 'The Gruffalo'. We found Gruffalo footprints around out classroom and used multilink cubes to measure them.
Fun In The Snow! This week we were lucky enough to have some snow in Caerau. We made the most of it by going outside to build a snowman and explore the snow. We talked about how the snow felt and what would happen to our snowman as the weather began to get warmer.
St David's Day - Making Welsh Cakes We followed the instructions and measured out the ingredients we needed to make our Welsh cakes. We used a rolling pin and a cutter to make our Welsh cakes. Once they were cooked we ate them! They were super yummy!
World Book Day 2023 To celebrate World Book Day this year we wore our pyjamas to school and share our favourite bedtime stories with our friends. We worked with our Year 3 "Reading Buddies" to take part in lots of fun, story related activities. We drank hot chocolate with marshmallows while Year 3 read us their favourite stories. We listened to the story 'The Gruffalo" while making Gruffalo headbands and we worked together to use natural materials to make a big Gruffalo. Here are some pictures of what we have been up to!
Making Our Own Bird Feeders We mixed lard and bird seed to make out bird feeder mixture. We then made shapes using playdough cutters and put them in the fridge to set. We went for a walk outside and talked about the best places to put them.
Looking For Wildlife We went down to our Nature Area to see what wildlife we could see. We found spiders, worms, birds, ants and a woodlouse! Next week we are going to be making bird feeders. We talked about the best places in our Nature Area to put them.
Whatever Next! This week we have been reading the story 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy. We used have been using props to retell the story. We have also been using boxes and other resources to build our own rockets!
Starry Night We used the ipads to create our own version of Van Gogh's Starry Night.
Chinese New Year This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We took part in lots of activities such as making Chinese lanturns and dragons, Chinese dancing and Chinese writing. We also had a Chinese takeaway and tried lots of new foods. Please have a look at the photos to see what we have been up to!
STEM We used the paint app on the ipads to draw pictures of our families.
Making Our Own Telescopes We have been designing and making our own telescopes. We used a range of resources to decorate them. We used the telescopes to see what we could see inside and outside our classroom.
2D Shape Rockets This week we have been learning our 2D Shapes. We used the shapes to make our own rockets.
Van Gogh's Starry Night We looked at the painting 'Starry Night' by Van Gogh. We talked about the features of the painting, then had a go at creating our own versions of the painting.
This week we have been talking about our daily routine. We have been following instructions to make toast. We spread the butter and jam on our toast by ourselves.
The Mad Scientist- Spring Term During the Spring Term our whole school topic is 'The Mad Scientist!'. In Nursery we will be learning about different routines such as making breakfast, getting dressed, brushing our teeth and bedtime. We will also be learning about light and dark and experimenting with lights, torches and shadows. Children will be learning about stars, space and plants as well as learning about nocturnal animals. This term we will be reading stories such as 'I don't want to go to bed', 'Whatever Next!' and 'Owl Babies'. We will also be celebrating, and learning about Chinese New Year, St David's Day and World Book Day.

Dates To Remember Friday 18th November- Children In Need-Non school uniform and crazy hair! Friday 2nd December- Christmas concert costumes to be in school by today. Wednesday 7th December- Christmas Dinner (Nursery and Reception only) Thursday 8th December- Christmas trip to Wiggley's Farm Wednesday 21st December- Christmas jumper walk for NSPCC- Children can wear Christmas jumpers to school. Thursday 22nd December- Break up for Christmas

Diwali In Nursery we have been learning about how Diwali is celebrated. We tried on traditional clothes and made coconut burfi sweats. We also made Rangoli patterns using multicoloured sand and made salt dough diva lamps!
Remembrance Day 2022 Last week we learnt about Remembrance Day and talked about why it is important. The children took part in lots of Poppy activities and even had a visit from Guardsman Thomas. He talked to us about what it is like to be in the army and showed us how to march like a real soldier!
